-----------------------
"The MavHome Smart Home project is a multi-disciplinary research project at the University of Texas at Arlington focused on the creation of an intelligent home environment. Our approach is to view the smart home as an intelligent agent that perceives its environment through the use of sensors, and can act upon the environment through the use of actuators. The home has certain overall goals, such as minimizing the cost of maintaining the home and maximizing the comfort of its inhabitants. In order to meet these goals, the house must be able to reason about and adapt to provided information." MavHome is a research project of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington.

The Duke Smart House

-------------------------------
"The Smart House, part of a Duke Engineering Living Technology Advancement project, creates a dynamic "living laboratory" e nvironment that contributes to the innovation and demonstration of future residential building technology. The central concept of this project is our belief that smart homes can improve that quality of life for people of all ages and incomes.
The Smart House provides students at Duke's Pratt School of Engineering and Trinity School of Arts and Sciences with an opportunity for practical hands- on engineering outside of the classroom in a living and learning community. In addition, we are partnering with industry to strengthen the residential market for integrated technology, and helping homeowners make their own ideas for smart homes a reality."

Center for Future Health
SMART MEDICAL HOME RESEARCH LABORATORY
http://www.futurehealth.rochester.edu/smart_home/
"The Smart Medical Home, located within the University of Rochester Center for Future Health, is the most controlled environment available outside of a person's home in which to do research, and is our setting for research in pre-concept testing, concept testing, pilots, and prototype testing. Research for Center Members in the Smart Medical Home is conducted as a Focused Research Project. Each project has a Principal Investigator from the Center and a Project Coordinator. All projects involving human subjects will follow the RSRB (Research Subject Review Board) process and HIPAA regulations through the University. Projects are defined jointly, and project plans and budgets are agreed upon before work starts.
The Center's overall goal is to develop an integrated Personal Health System, so all technologies are integrated and work seamlessly."

There are other smart house projects across the country, many any are listed here:
